Sustainability strategy

Chart your course to a more sustainable business.

Sustainability priorities become meaningful when they connect to the decisions your business makes. We help you understand your context, engage the right people and translate material issues into a focused, workable strategy.

For organisations defining their sustainability direction, refreshing their priorities or aligning teams around a shared plan.

A clear direction.
A plan to make it happen.

Implementation roadmap & governance

Materiality, made clear

Understand what matters.
Then decide where to act.

Materiality helps identify the sustainability issues that deserve attention. We help you assess your impacts, understand business risks and opportunities, and choose an approach that fits your strategy and reporting needs.

Follow the relationship

Your business affects people and the environment.

Impact materiality

The impacts you have.

Identify your significant actual or potential, positive or negative impacts on people and the environment, across your operations and value chain.

A water example

A site's water use could reduce the water available to local communities and ecosystems.

From insight to priority

Prioritise where to prevent or reduce harm, and where to strengthen positive impacts.

Follow the relationship

Sustainability issues affect your business prospects.

Financial materiality

The issues that affect you.

Assess sustainability risks and opportunities that could affect your financial position, performance, cash flows, access to finance or cost of capital over the short, medium or long term.

A water example

Water scarcity could interrupt production, increase operating costs or create a case for water-efficient equipment.

From insight to priority

Prioritise the risks and opportunities that matter for business resilience and investment.

Follow the relationship

Consider your impacts and the financial effects of sustainability issues together.

Double materiality

Both perspectives. One picture.

Bring impact and financial materiality together. A topic can be material because of its impacts, its financial effects, or both. Neither perspective replaces the other.

A water example

Water use may affect local communities while water scarcity creates costs for your business. Either perspective can make the topic material.

From insight to priority

Build priorities that reflect significant impacts alongside business risks and opportunities.

The assessment combines evidence, stakeholder perspectives and a documented method. The result is a reasoned set of priorities your team can explain.

A little more clarity

Questions
you might have.

Starting from scratch or building on existing work, we shape the approach around your business.

Talk it through with us
Can you help us if we are just getting started?

Yes. We begin with your business priorities, existing activities and the questions you need to answer. You do not need a finished data set or an established sustainability team. We agree a manageable scope, identify information gaps and build a practical starting point with you.

Do we need a double materiality assessment?

That depends on your reporting requirements and what you need the assessment to do. Double materiality considers both your impacts on people and the environment and sustainability-related financial risks and opportunities. We help you choose an appropriate approach and level of detail. A topic can be material from either perspective, or both.

How do you involve our stakeholders?

We agree whose perspectives are relevant and the most useful way to hear them. This can include interviews, workshops, surveys or existing research. Stakeholder input informs the assessment alongside evidence about impacts, risks and opportunities; it is not simply a vote on which topics are most popular.

What if we already have a sustainability strategy?

We can review your existing strategy, test whether its priorities still reflect the business and refresh selected areas. That might mean updating the materiality assessment, strengthening objectives or making the implementation plan more practical. We build on useful work you already have.

How do you make sure the strategy can be put into practice?

We involve the people who will deliver it and consider responsibilities, resources and dependencies while the strategy is being developed. The roadmap connects priorities to actions, owners, milestones and indicators. We also agree review arrangements so the plan can evolve as your business and circumstances change.

Can the work support our sustainability reporting?

Yes. The assessment, objectives and progress measures can provide a useful foundation for reporting. We document the work so relevant evidence can be reused, while checking what your chosen reporting standards require. Preparing disclosures and a full report can be included as a connected service.
