GHG inventory

Your path to better GHG emissions management

Whether you are an SME or a large enterprise, we help you build a credible and compliant GHG inventory and put you on the right path toward best-practice emissions management. Our expertise ensures your emissions calculations are accurate, transparent, and aligned with recognised best practices and regulatory expectations.

A good fit for

For organisations building their first inventory, expanding into Scope 3 or bringing greater consistency to an existing carbon footprint.

Tangible outcomes

What you leave with.

Clear outputs, documented thinking and practical next steps. The final scope is shaped around your organisation and agreed before we begin.

01

A defined inventory boundary

An agreed reporting period, organisational boundary and emissions sources, with the reasoning behind inclusion and exclusion decisions.

02

A documented emissions inventory

Scope 1, 2 and relevant Scope 3 calculations, accompanied by source references, emission factors, assumptions and an explanation of the method.

03

An emissions hotspot assessment

A clear view of the activities and value-chain categories that contribute most, so your next actions address the right areas.

04

A practical improvement plan

Prioritised actions to strengthen source information, resolve gaps and make the next reporting cycle easier for your team.

Our approach

A Structured Path to GHG Accounting.

The process begins by defining the boundaries of your GHG inventory and identifying the emission sources relevant to your organisation. From there, the required activity data is collected, calculated and validated in accordance with rigorous standards and frameworks such as the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064, while supporting alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) where relevant. The result is a transparent and well-documented emissions inventory that provides a reliable foundation for reporting, target setting and future decarbonisation efforts.

  1. Define the scope

We establish the organisational and operational boundaries of the inventory, identify relevant emission sources, and determine the applicable reporting requirements.

  2. Collect the data

We gather the activity data needed for the calculation, including energy use, fuel consumption, transport, purchased electricity, and other relevant emission sources.

  3. Select the methodology

We apply recognised calculation methodologies and appropriate emission factors to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with accepted standards such as the GHG Protocol.

  4. Calculate the emissions

We calculate Scope 1, Scope 2 and, where relevant, Scope 3 emissions, with clear documentation of assumptions, estimates and calculation methods.

  5. Review and validate

We perform quality checks, identify data gaps or inconsistencies, and validate the results to strengthen the reliability and transparency of the inventory.

  6. Deliver and improve

We provide a clear, well-documented GHG inventory together with recommendations for improving data quality, reporting processes and future emissions management.

Benefits

What you actually get out of it.

Save time and reduce complexity

We take the complexity out of GHG accounting, so your team can focus on the business.

Gain confidence in your numbers

Clear, reliable emissions data you can use with confidence in reporting, decision-making and stakeholder communication.

Stay ready for what comes next

A strong foundation for future reporting requirements, customer requests and sustainability goals.

The natural next step

Once you know your number, the question becomes what to do about it.

An inventory tells you where your emissions are today.

The natural next step is setting a target and building a costed plan for reduction - turning the measurement into a decision.

Using the same organisational boundary and emissions baseline, we help you move seamlessly from measurement to a clear pathway toward Net Zero.

Frequently asked questions

Can we prepare a valid emissions inventory if some data is missing or unavailable?

Yes, provided the gaps are addressed using suitable estimation methods and transparently documented. Where a number is not available, we estimate it, label it clearly as an estimate, and document the method and assumptions behind it. We also identify what to improve so estimates can be replaced with measured data in the next reporting cycle wherever possible.

Most of our suppliers will not send us anything. What then?

You use spend-based estimates for those suppliers. That is permitted under the GHG Protocol, and we mark them so nobody mistakes them for measured data. You also get a ranked list of the suppliers worth chasing, which is usually short, because most of Scope 3 sits with a handful of them.

How accurate is a Scope 3 figure, really?

Less accurate than Scope 1 and 2, and it should be presented that way. Categories built from supplier-specific data are reliable; categories built from spend and an average factor tell you the order of magnitude and where to look. We record the method and the data quality against each category rather than publishing one number that hides the difference.

What does it cost?

A fixed fee, quoted after a short call, once we know how many entities and sites are in scope and how much of Scope 3 you need covered. No hourly billing. If the scope changes part way through, you hear what it costs before the work is done, not after.

Do you offer automation or software integration for GHG inventories?

Yes. We offer GHG inventory automation and software integration as an advanced service. We generally recommend introducing these solutions after the initial reporting cycle, once clear boundaries, agreed calculation methods and a structured data collection process are in place. This gives both your team and ours a shared understanding of your emissions sources, data flows and practical requirements, so automation is built on sound foundations and fits the way your organisation works.
